The Multicultural Gambler's Help Program offers free training to Gambler's Help services to help develop and increase cultural competence.

You can choose from our standard training modules or we can customise a module to suit your needs.

Training enquiries

Cultural Competence

Tailored for the Gambler's Help sector, this workshop provides an outline of the cultural competency framework.

Key learning outcomes

  • Understand the individual, professional, organisational and systemic dimensions of cultural competence
  • Incorporate cultural competency principles into organisational structures and systems
  • Understand the leadership role needed to create organisational change

Working with Interpreters

This workshop focuses on counselling settings with clients who have low English proficiency.

Key learning outcomes

  • Identify when to use an interpreter with clients
  • Understand the role of an interpreter within a counselling context
  • Develop the necessary skills to work with an interpreter

Inclusive Intake and Assessment

Developed for Gambler's Help counsellors, this module will complement the practical guidelines on intake and assessment produced by the Department of Justice.

Key learning outcomes

  • Understand how culture impacts on practice
  • Apply strategies to ensure that intake and assessment processes are culturally inclusive
  • Gain knowledge of how culture, migration and settlement can affect wellbeing
  • Understand different cultural beliefs and attitudes towards gambling
