Social enterprise

This session will provide a broad understanding of social enterprise and the social entrepreneurship style of work. It showcases two social enterprise case studies and two social enterprise paradigms.

The first case study features The Ambassador Newspaper, an African multilingual newspaper. We discuss the impact of the newspaper in assisting people of African backgrounds to access settlement services, the role of volunteers in running the newspaper, and the benefits to volunteers in gaining confidence and labour skills.

With a target group of predominantly newly-arrived migrants and refugees residing in Richmond Public Housing Estate, the presentation will provide learning opportunities on the challenges, successes, and failures to run a social enterprise.
